This is the match-up carried over from yesterday which I was going to play but because of the weather report I left it off the card. I like the D'Backs in this match-up as a value underdog.
The job falls to Smoltz in shutting down the snakes offense, which ranks near the top in the league in team batting average and runs scored. In his last start against the Cubs, Smoltz struggled through six innings, surrendering six runs on eight hits. Smoltz is having a good year for the Braves, but he's certainly not unbeatable. The Braves have only won six of his 11 starts and his ERA is close to 4.00 over his last three starts. Arizona counter with Enrique Gonzalez who will be looking to repeat the success he had in his Major League debut, which came Sunday ! in Cincinnati. |

Though he didn't earn a win, he allowed only one run and three hits in the start. Gonzalez has turned heads in Arizona over the past few years after posting dominant numbers in the Minor Leagues and being named the Diamondbacks Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2004. Gonzalez should have success against this Braves squad that has lost money vs. right-handers this season. The Diamondbacks are making money vs. righties with 5.1 runs per game this season, so let's grab what looks to be a wildly inflated price, and look for the visitor to win game 1 of this double header today.
